The Boys season 4 is officially here, and one Hughie and Butcher scene from the early episodes serves as a perfect callback to season 1. The titular team is off to a rough start in the Amazon show’s fourth season, with each member of The Boys grappling with their own pasts and demons. There isn’t a lot of great teamwork happening as The Boys season 4 opens, and it’s making it even more difficult for MM to fully step into his role as the group’s new leader.
Of course, The Boys team isn’t always the best at teamwork, even during the earlier seasons, and one moment from the premiere is a subtle reminder of that. Butcher and Hughie’s relationship is complicated in The Boys, and it’s hard to tell when they’re loyal friends and when they’re at odds with one another. One scene from The Boys season 4’s opening episodes sees Butcher putting Hughie in harm’s way in a manner that’s reminiscent of season 1.
