Marvel’s Black Panther: Wakanda Forever tops Fandango’s list of the most anticipated movies of 2022. The past two years have been strange ones for the moviegoing industry as the coronavirus pandemic displaced major movies and drastically changed how films are seen by audiences. 2021 brought some normalcy with the return of blockbusters, but there were still several highly anticipated films that found themselves bumped to 2022. As a result, the hope for many is that next year will push the box office even closer to regular numbers, particularly as more audiences get vaccinated.
Currently the third MCU film scheduled to premiere in 2022, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever is a unique project. As the sequel to one of the most beloved and successful Marvel films of all time, Black Panther 2 already comes with high expectations. However, it must also contend with the passing of lead actor Chadwick Boseman, who died in August 2020. Writer-director Ryan Coogler reworked the movie, and production kicked off earlier this year. Following a delay caused by star Letitia Wright’s on-set injury, filming is expected to resume in the new year.
