The Obi-Wan Kenobi series features the live-action debut of Imperial Inquisitors in its first two episodes and raises several questions about these dark side warriors and their master, the Sith Lord Darth Vader. Set between the events of Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope, Obi-Wan makes use of the post-2014 canon continuity’s version of Imperial Inquisitors, who are tasked by Darth Vader with hunting down Jedi throughout the galaxy. Although Inquisitors have had prominent appearances in properties like Star Wars Rebels and Jedi: Fallen Order, Obi-Wan adds to their grim lore and raises new questions in the process.
Inquisitors debuted in the Star Wars Legends continuity before it was made into an alternate timeline in 2014. The dark side warriors were soon reintroduced to the current canon in Rebels season 1. Although the Inquisitors are well-trained in the dark side of the Force by Darth Vader, they are not Sith Lords, but rather a sub-division of the Sith Order who use their fighting style, distinctive apparel, and philosophies without truly being Dark Lords. This not only allows Inquisitors to serve Darth Vader and Emperor Palpatine without breaking the Sith Order’s Rule of Two, but it also prevents them from becoming a permanent fixture within the Empire.
