The undeniably monstrous event of Avatar was truly a time to behold, but James Cameron is right to acknowledge that its four sequels are a huge risk to release more than a decade later. The groundbreaking filmmaker is well aware of his own massive success as well as his potential for failure with the upcoming, long-overdue follow-up, Avatar: The Way of the Water, plus parts 3, 4, and 5, as he expressed in a recent interview.

Even with Sigourney Weaver playing Kiri for most of the film, Dr. Grace Augustine could also feature in select scenes. Set photos from Avatar 2 have shown Sigourney Weaver and Joel David Moore (a human working under Dr. Grace Augstine) on the set of their genetics lab from the first film. At the end of Avatar, all humans but Jake Sully’s friends were exiled from Pandora, leaving their settlement empty, so revisiting this set indicates that there will be flashbacks of Sigourney Weaver’s character. These flashbacks could also offer further clues as to how Grace and Kiri are linked if Kiri ends up regaining memories of a past life as Dr. Augustine. Whatever the case may be, it will be interesting to see how Sigourney Weaver’s Avatar 2 role plays out when the film premieres.
