The Guardians will return in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, but the line-up changed after Avengers: Endgame, so how is Gamora back in the latest trailer? Since the team originally formed in 2014’s Guardians of the Galaxy, they have faced more than their share of hard knocks. The band of misfits suffered incredible loss like many others with the conclusion of the Infinity Saga, but while the Avengers were able to restore half of the universe’s missing people, the guardians were unable to bring Gamora back after Thanos sacrificed her for the Soul Stone in Avengers: Infinity War.
Avengers: Endgame followed events five years later and in the course of trying to bring everyone back from the blip, Nebula unwittingly alerted an alternate version of herself, and by extension, another Thanos and Gamora too. The Gamora variant that entered into the main MCU timeline is not the same as the one lost in Infinity War, but she isn’t so different either. This Gamora came from 2014, just before she met Peter Quill and the rest of the Guardians. So, by extension, it is possible that this Gamora has the same capacity for good and heroism as the one that was with the Guardians for four years.
