The inspiration behind this video:

The Dark Knight changed the game not only for Batman movies but for superhero adaptations in general. Nolan proved that comic book concepts and characters deemed unadaptable could be translated to the big screen, albeit with some significant changes. The Joker would no longer fall in a vat of acid, Ra’s Al Ghul’s Lazarus Pit would be a visual metaphor, and Bane would not use Venom. All of those changes worked within the context of Nolan’s Dark Knight trilogy, yet they might have played against Batman’s movie legacy in the long run. The Dark Knight created a perception that Batman has to be realistic, which is not true.

What makes Batman such an interesting character and explains why the Dark Knight has become DC’s flagship hero is how he can fit into widely different scenarios. For example, Batman can fight the Riddler in a self-contained detective story in one comic book issue and then join the Justice League to fight Darkseid in another. Seeing Batman, who has no superpowers, fighting besides Superman and Wonder Woman only makes Bruce Wayne more intriguing, a side of the character that all solo Batman movies have failed to adapt. With Affleck’s Batman run now ending, The Brave and the Bold is DC’s best chance of moving beyond The Dark Knight.
