Inspiration behind this video:

We originally thought that Disney had confirmed The Mandalorian season three would premiere in time for Christmas Day, 2021, but it’s now clear that this was referring to the Boba Fett spin-off instead. Whether this means that Boba’s first episode will arrive on December 25 or earlier remains unclear. Either way, it’s a festive treat for us all. That means season three will arrive early 2022 at the earliest.

And don’t worry too much about potential delays either. Favreau has already confirmed in an interview with Variety that season three is “on schedule”. If correct, then filming should commence by the start of 2021.

Before the season two finale aired, we assumed that Pedro Pascal would play the lead role once again (presumably with help from stunt double Brendan Wayne, grandson of the legendary actor John Wayne). And of course, we assumed that he would be joined Baby Yoda (not gonna call him Grogu, can’t make us), another star of considerable repute.

However, the end of their story did feel extremely final, which led us to believe that the post-credits scene might have been included to set up a whole new story revolving around Boba Fett (Temuera Morrison) and Fennec Shand (Ming-Na Wen) in what will be known as The Book of Boba Fett.

Thankfully, we now know that Boba Fett is actually starring in a separate spinoff, which means that Pedro, and hopefully Grogu, will indeed return in The Mandalorian season three, after all. Pascal’s stunt double Brendan Wayne confirmed this in an instagram post following the finale which said:

“No spoilers!!! But just in case the world didn’t know yet Pedro Pascal is incredible. The journey they wrote for him this season was so beautiful. The fact that Pedro went beyond the page and made this epic. Thank you Pedro Pascal.”

And he added: “Yes!! Pedro is coming back. There was never any question. DO NOT BELIEVE EVERYTHING YOU READ.”

Here’s a list of other possible returnees, including:

Cara Dune (Gina Carano)
Greef Karga (Carl Weathers)
Moff Gideon (Giancarlo Esposito)
Ahsoka Tano (Rosario Dawson)
Bo-Katan (Katee Sackhoff)

As previously mentioned, it looks like Boba Fett and Fennec Shand will take centre stage in season three. A Boba-themed spin-off has been rumoured for some time now, but who could have predicted that this would take place in The Mandalorian show itself, instead of a separate entity?

Speaking to People, actor Giancarlo Esposito hinted at what’s next in store for The Mandalorian in season three:

“We’re living in a universe that is huge and [that has] so much to explore. So I think this show is going to start to lay the groundwork for the depth and breadth that’s going to come in season three and season four, where you’re really gonna start to get answers.”

These quotes make a lot more sense now that we know three new spin-off shows are coming our way. Rangers of the New Republic, Ahsoka and The Book of Boba Fett will be set during the same timeline as The Mandalorian, so don’t be surprised if they connect to the main show in some capacity. In fact, season three may set them all up directly.

While we don’t know much yet about Rangers of the New Republic, the Ahsoka spin-off was pretty much a given already following the character’s live-action debut in The Mandalorian season two. And Boba’s upcoming solo venture is something that Disney has been planning for quite some time, so we can’t wait to see it finally arrive on our screens.

Thank You So Much For Watching!
