The star of Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings hopes the film can live up to the legacy left by Black Panther. Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings will mark the first film in the MCU that features an Asian actor in the lead role, a huge landmark for the franchise which has been running for thirteen years. The film follows Shang-Chi, who was trained by his father to work for the organization, The Ten Rings, and how he must confront the organization and past he left behind.
Shang-Chi was one of the original properties Marvel Studios began developing as an independent studio, alongside characters like Captain America, Ant-Man, and even Black Panther. Shang-Chi and Black Panther both remained in development at Marvel Studios while they launched with characters that would make up the Avengers like Iron Man, Hulk, Thor, and Captain America. Black Panther finally made his way to the big screen in Captain America: Civil War, and his next appearance, his own solo film, Black Panther, went on to become one of the highest-grossing films of all time. Black Panther is even regarded as the best film Marvel Studios has made, according to Kevin Feige.
