The inspiration behind this video:
Thanks to the new Loki series, the MCU has finally addressed the God of Mischief’s worst character plot hole. The series picks up his story where Avengers: Endgame left off, with 2012 post-Battle of New York Loki snagging the Tesseract in a scuffle and popping out of that timeline and into a new one. After promptly being apprehended by the Time Variance Authority, the trickster god’s understanding of the universe was further shaken when he learned the TVA’s Time-Keepers controlled everything, even his own story. He finally broke upon seeing a highlight reel of his life on the other, Sacred Timeline culminating in his death at the hands of Thanos.
Loki’s final death (at least in the main timeline) in Avengers: Infinity War has been something of a sore spot with the Marvel faithful since the movie came out in 2018. It wasn’t necessarily that he died, but how he died that has stuck in fans’ collective craw. Throughout his time in the MCU, Loki had cheated death so many times. Between falling to his apparent death from the Rainbow Bridge in Thor, faking his own death in Thor: The Dark World, escaping the destruction of Asgard in Thor: Ragnarok and more, Loki had always found ways to survive that others never could. He relied on his brilliant brain and deception to survive, which is why the trick he tried to pull on Thanos that ultimately ended in Loki’s death always sat wrong with audiences. It was a cheap and obvious parlor trick, out of character for the sorcerer who was normally far more clever, let alone when going up against an ultrapowerful being like Thanos. His death had always felt like a jarring and ignominious end for the God of Mischief.
