Live-action adaptations could be in the cards for some episodes of What If…? Marvel’s foray into the streaming realm has be wildly successful so far. Both WandaVision and The Falcon and the Winter Soldier scored multiple Emmy nominations ahead of the ceremony later this year. Loki, which was released after the eligibility period, was the MCU’s most acclaimed series yet on top of being the series that most overtly set up the next part of Phase 4 by breaking the multiverse wide open. That multiverse will be explored in depth in the next Marvel and Disney+ series.
Unlike Peter Quill’s version of Star-Lord, T’Challa’s Star-Lord presented at the center of Marvel’s What If…? episode 2 was a famous figure throughout the galaxy. Episode 2 focused on a scenario in which T’Challa transformed into a Ravager after being taken as a child instead of Peter. Whereas T’Challa still became a hero outside of the Wakanda confines, the same couldn’t be said for Peter in this alternate reality. Though the main Black Panther and Star-Lord from the MCU couldn’t be more different from each other, What If…? examined some of those differences on a new level.
“What If… T’Challa Became A Star-Lord?” featured the voice of Chadwick Boseman, reprising his Black Panther role of T’Challa, the Wakanda native who was destined for greatness wherever he ended up. Instead of remaining in the African nation as the heir to the throne, T’Challa was accidentally abducted by the Ravagers in the late ’80s. Rather than return, T’Challa joined Yondu and the Ravagers to fulfill his dreams of exploring the galaxy. For the next two decades, T’Challa took on the moniker of “Star-Lord,” working as an intergalactic outlaw who acquired quite the fan following.
