Squid Game creator Hwang Dong-hyuk reveals additional story details about season 2 and explains how it’s a natural extension of what happened in season 1. First airing on Netflix last year, Squid Game quickly became a global phenomenon. The show tells the story of a group of impoverished South Korean citizens who participate in deadly children’s games in an attempt to win a massive cash prize, with Lee Jung-jae starring as Seong Gi-hun.
After the large group of contestants is whittled down over the course of season 1, often in gruesome fashion, Gi-hun emerges victorious. A changed man, Gi-hun decides to visit his family in the U.S. Just before getting on the plane, however, Gi-hun decides against it, seemingly setting out to prevent any other impoverished South Koreans from participating in the games. As Dong-hyuk previously explained regarding Squid Game season 2, the story moving forward will focus on Gi-hun proving that all humans have the capacity for goodness.
