A new character will reportedly take up the Black Noir mantle in The Boys season 4 – here is what it means for the supe’s future. Along with introducing new rivalries and bad blood, The Boys season 3 provides a glimpse into Black Noir’s tragic backstory, adding multiple layers to the otherwise one-dimensional side character. Unfortunately, just when the potential of Black Noir’s character begins to surface, The Boys brews a perilous plot against the masked supe and ruthlessly eradicates him by the end of the season. Noir’s sudden death in The Boys season 3 is uncalled-for, but The Boys season 4 set photos suggest that it is not the end of the road for the character in some senses.

Although Black Noir is returning in The Boys season 4, the story developments around his character will be a little complicated. As revealed by The Boys’ showrunner Eric Kripke (via EW), the Black Noir from the first three seasons of The Boys is actually dead. However, a new character will now disguise himself as the supe by hiding underneath his cowl and playing a new “interesting and hilarious character.” This development raises some interesting prospects for The Boys season 4 and also explains why Black Noir has been portrayed by two different actors.
