While the Stranger Things season 5 time jump has been confirmed, the Netflix hitβs season 4 ending makes it hard to see how this approach will work for the series. When Stranger Things first debuted in 2016, no one could have predicted that the Netflix series would become a full-blown pop culture phenomenon in the years that followed. In that time, the cast of Stranger Things has gone on to become A-list movie stars while the series itself has grown in scope (and budget) with each new season. However, along with this success has come a slew of new challenges for the creators of Stranger Things, particularly concerning the showβs aging stars.
One major issue that the Stranger Things timeline created is the disconnect between the ages of the showβs cast and the ages of its characters. While the stars of Stranger Things have aged seven years since season 1 released in 2016, their characters have only aged three years in-universe and this has led to some problems for the series. Namely, as legendary director James Cameron noted, the cast of Stranger Things are playing 15-year-olds despite being nearly 20 years old (or, in some cases, still playing teenagers even though the actors are in their late 20s). This issue can theoretically be fixed with a time jump, but this creates some problems of its own for Stranger Things season 5.
