The inspiration behind this video:

The Marvels’ villain is Dar-Benn, played by Zawe Ashton. EW’s The Marvels story describes Dar-Benn as a Kree revolutionary and hints at what her goal is. According to the article, Dar-Benn wants to “restore her homeland after a long civil war.” In the comics, Dar-Benn and Ael-Dan ruled the Kree Empire as joint emperors after they orchestrated a coup, which could be the inspiration for this long Kree civil war referenced in The Marvels. The Kree have been a significant part of the MCU since Guardians of the Galaxy (2014), which featured Ronan the Accuser.

Ms. Marvel’s powers in the MCU are different from the comics, although Kamala Khan is expected to receive a new set of powers in Marvel Comics as well. Therefore, Captain Marvel, Ms. Marvel, and Monica Rambeu all have a similar set of light-based powers in the MCU. However, director Nia DaCosta wanted each The Marvels hero to have a unique fighting style. The article mentions how Teyonah Parris was practicing boxing at the same time that Iman Vellani was practicing parkour moves.
