The Inspiration behind this video:
Though they may be some of the most jump-scare-inducing games in recent memory, the Five Nights at Freddy’s movie’s PG-13 rating is not necessarily an indicator it will be an unscary adaptation of its source material. The early games themselves were rated T for teen, with much of the violence done to players’ characters being kept off-screen and the quick shock of the animatronics being the most egregious aspect to earn said rating from the ESRB.
Additionally, as some noted above, Blumhouse have a long history of PG-13 horror movies going on to be smash hits for the studio, with M3GAN earning both some of their highest reviews to date and amassing a $181 million box office haul, quickly earning it a sequel order with the original stars and writers returning while the director is in talks. Even more recently, Insidious: The Red Door, the conclusion to the mainline franchise, earned the second-best opening weekend for the James Wan-produced series, topping the recently released Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny, and currently sitting just shy of $158 million grossed worldwide.
