🦁 Mufasa – The Lion King 2

Mufasa: The Lion King extends the cherished Disney live-action Lion King series with a prequel narrating the ascent of Mufasa and the journey that shaped him into the authoritative and sagacious ruler who imparted invaluable wisdom to Simba. Following the triumph of Jon Favreau’s 2019 live-action remake of The Lion King, Oscar winner Barry Jenkins is set to direct this Mufasa prequel, exploring Simba’s father before ascending to the throne of Pride Rock and delving into the origins of his complex relationship with his brother, Scar.

Initially slated for release on July 5, 2024, Mufasa: The Lion King has now been rescheduled to premiere on December 20th. This adjustment aligns with broader release date changes for Disney, affecting films such as Deadpool 3, Captain America: Brave New World, and Thunderbolts. Nevertheless, this delay may prove advantageous for the film’s success. A Christmas release is poised to attract more families, potentially boosting box office performance, while the extended timeline provides the studio with additional opportunities to refine the film’s CGI.
